Looks for Every Body # 8: New Looks for the New Year

Now that the holidays are over, let’s start the New Year off with a fresh outlook! Bring in some basic black and white pieces to streamline the process of choosing outfits in the morning. Add an unexpected color or brights like citron or jewelry to bridge your look from Winter to Spring.

Yarra here, feeling grateful for the people in my life and to all who read this blog. Your feedback online and in the store is deeply appreciated. The Looks for Every Body series began as a way to show that Stella Carakasi designs for many different body shapes, and she keeps in mind the demands of a woman’s busy lifestyle! If you are new to this series please check out our related posts.

Stella’s Resort collection includes anti-pill jersey as a strong fabrication. It can be worn and washed without worry. The printed yoru is a sumi ink painting motif that can be worn on its own, or layered for a more dramatic effect. Citron is included as a color pop to push this basic B&W palette.

Inverted Triangle: The Rest Assured Top (shown in print) is a long-sleeve blouse with jersey sleeves. This beautiful blouse comes with a tank in white. Wear it with one of our favorite pants that is back in black: the Incomparable Ankle Pant! This is a favorite for many reasons, including draping, elegance and comfort. The black is a better-than-basic to add mystique to your regular wardrobe rotation.

Rectangle: Create some curves with the gentle draping of the Balancing Act Cardigan (shown in white) over the Made You Look Tunic (shown in citron). The Rectangle body shape does not need to worry about a lack of curves with this subtle duo.

Circle: Shine with confidence in this dramatic ensemble. The Aspirations Sweater (shown in black) over the Ready to Wear Leggings (shown in black) cuts a distinctive silhouette. For the circle figure it elongates the torso in a relaxed and “not trying too hard” way. Add a beaded pendant layered with a striped infinity scarf, and you look adorned and modern. This is a great example of an effortless day to night look.

Triangle: When we talk about body shape, we want to accentuate the positives. With this look, we are accentuating the narrow top of the body with the sweeping architecture of the Feel Good Tunic (shown in citron). The Stepping Out Leggings (available in black) acts as a body shaper and gives coverage unlike typical leggings.

Hourglass: Layer, layer, layer! This is an outfit that any body shape can wear (with a little tweaking). The Take it Easy Sweater (shown in white) is a design house and customer favorite. We ran this sweater once before, and we sold out immediately! It is great over tunics, dresses, or with jeans. Here it is paired with Skirt the Issue (available in black) worn over the new favorite Stepping Out Leggings (available in black).

Like what you see? Pick up a couple of the black and white separates featured for the perfect start to the New Year. Give yourself permission to treat yourself and others kindly. Start fresh and imagine the possibilities…

Travel with Stella

Vivian here, just back from a trip to France and Spain. I brought Stella along, and I’m happy to report that she travels well! And just to clarify, I’m not talking about my gal pal the Head Designer, but rather our clothes 🙂

All I can say is that I’m grateful for how easy it is to travel with my Stellawear. The clothes are not only versatile, but comfortable and ready-to-wear. I am not patient or easy on my clothes when I travel — they have to work for me, not against me! And I’m happy to report that they went easily from suitcase to hanger, and after a quick steam, onto my body and out the door!

Here are the items I chose, along with 1 pair of black leggings + 2 pairs of coated jeans + 1 black top (ok, I did bring a few other items but did not end up wearing them!):

Next in Line Sweater (black)
I love, love, love this sweater! It’s my new favorite for on-the-go comfort and style. Keeps me warm and cozy, hints to the traditional cotton knit, but surprises with a sexy hip! I got plenty of glances with this one when I wore my contrasting metallic-coated jeans (“Well, aren’t you all that!”). On other occasions, I wore it with black leggings and black boots for a more subdued silhouette.

Just Enough Top (alabaster)
This silky top gave me the dressed-up sheen without the headaches of ironing (I hate ironing). I wore it with and without the Two Way Shrug, depending upon the occasion, the weather, and the pants. Long story short, it’s an easy one to dress up or down, depending upon your shoes and accessories.

Two Way Shrug (shadow)
Typically, I’m not a shrug kind of gal, but I tried it and liked it! I wore it with the Just Enough Top with the points at the collar, which created nice visual interest at the top and a nice line on my bottom. The fabric weight was perfect to moderate the changing temperatures (cool to hot!). It can be an item of intrigue if worn with all black, or part of your silhouette if worn with similar-colored bottoms.

Fit to Flatter Top (shiraz)
What can I say, but, “va-va-voom!” The rich shiraz and fascinating draping at the front are not things that deny attention, so beware! Dress it up with black leggings and heels, or down with jeans and boots. Either way, it’s a quick steam away from inspiring your next adventure 🙂

About Town Coat (black) — not shown
This is a Fall 2012 style made from the same cotton metal twill fabric as the Now or Never Jacket. I am thrilled that I can scrunch it, stuff it in my suitcase, then pull it out and wear it. It is the most versatile jacket I own, as it works with my mood-driven style and equally unpredictable weather conditions. I simply won’t part with it!

Now, even though I’m a seasoned road warrior, don’t take my word for it — bring Stella on your next trip and let us know what you think!!

New York Style

New York City has been a blast. I arrived on Saturday to find beautiful days and sweater weather at night. Perfect for showing Stella Carakasi’s Spring 2014 collection during the day and wearing the new Fall 2013 at night.

I had to first visit the Empire State Building wearing my Next In Line Sweater.

What a great surprise to see Stella on the Atelier Designers tradeshow banner (left)!

Stella was also featured in the opening spread of the tradeshow booklet (right)!

Our suite showcased favorite outfits from the Spring 2014 collection.

Our customers said that Stella Carakasi looks dazzled at the show!

Was able to visit the Guggenheim briefly after a very successful show. I love New York!
